Conciliar Christology Diagram

When teaching introductory courses, I’ve found this a helpful visual presentation of the Christological insights of Nicaea (the X axis) and Chalcedon (the Y axis). Just be sure to explain that the X axis does not consist of a quantitative spectrum of humanity and divinity. In the grey area, ‘there be dragons’. As long as we avoid that area, so I explain, there is room for various emphases in our Christological reflections without dissolving the mystery of the incarnation by stumbling into heresy.
